Since 2011, GEMS has welcomed students from across the UK to its annual National Conference. The University of Glasgow Medical Research Society will continue to run the National Conference from 2016 onwards.
Themes have included ‘Academic Medicine — Is it for me?’ and ‘How to Forge a Career in Academic Medicine’. The conference is an ideal opportunity for students to gain experience in oral and poster presentations. In the past, abstracts for presented work have been published in the Scottish Medical Journal, which means valuable points in an Academic Foundation Programme application!
The conference is also a great place to discover role models, whether you are inspired hearing a Professor of Pharmacology speak about balancing a clinical and academic career, or get fired up through meeting a working GP who manages to combine patient priorities with publishing in the press, it’s a networking opportunity.
Info about the 2016 conference will appear here during summer 2016
